Police News Release - August 27, 2026
Family Violence
On August 26 at 8:15am, BPS responded to an address on Westaway Bay for a report of a disturbance within a residence. The investigation determined that an altercation occurred between a male and female who were in a relationship with each other. During the altercation, the male assaulted the female and their 1-year-old child, casing minor injuries to both. A 20-year-old male was arrested and released by Undertaking for Assault x2, for Court on a later date.
Arrest Warrants Executed
On August 26, BPS attended three different residences to arrest individuals wanted on unrelated arrest warrants:
- A 38-year-old female was arrested for Fail to Attend Court
- A 27-year-old male was arrested for Fail to Comply with Release Order
- A 25-year-old female was arrested for Assault, Uttering Threats, and Fail to Comply with Release Order
Intoxicated Minor in Public
On August 26 at 3:00pm, BPS attended the Downtown Summer Market and responded to a report of a female causing a disturbance and harassing event attendees. A 17-year-old female was found to be highly intoxicated and was lodged until sober to be charged for Consume Liquor as a Minor.
Assault with Hammer
On August 26 at 2:45pm, BPS attended an address in the 100 block on 1st Street following a report of a male who assaulted his female partner by striking her with a hammer. She sustained minor injuries as a result. A 36-year-old male was located and arrested nearby after attempting to discard the hammer. He was held in custody until sober and released by Undertaking for one count of Assault with a Weapon.
Stolen Vehicle
On August 26, BPS received a report of a vehicle that was stolen the previous night from the 0-100 block of 26th Street. The vehicle is a brown 2005 Chevrolet Equinox (MB# HUG 729). If you locate this vehicle, please contact Police.
Breach of Peace
On August 26 at 10:00pm, BPS responded to a report of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance at a hotel on Victoria Avenue. A 46-year-old male was taken into custody to prevent a further breach of the peace, to be released once sober.
Impaired Driving
On August 27 at 1:00am, BPS responded to a report of an intoxicated male who caused a disturbance at a residence in the 200 block of 16th Street East, then left his vehicle. Officers located the male driving, and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested for Impaired Driving but later refused to provide breath samples. A 22-year-old male was lodged until sober for later release by Appearance Notice for Impaired Driving and Refuse to Provide Breath Sample.
