Police News Release - August 17th, 2026

Breach of the Peace

In the past 24 hours two individuals from separate incidents were arrested for Breach of the Peace and held in Brandon Police Service (BPS) detention cells. The 31-year-old male and 43-year-old female will be released once sober.

 

Arrest Warrant

In the past 24 hours, three arrest warrants were executed. Two individuals were held in custody for court in the morning, and the third was released via Appearance Notice with a future court date of September 14th, 2026.

 

IPV-Assault / Choke to Overcome Resistance

On August 17th at approximately 12:55 a.m., police were called to a home in the 900 block of 1st Street regarding a report of a fight. Police attended and noted that both parties, a 40-year-old male and a 41-year-old female, had visible injuries. Both initially disclosed that they had been assaulted by the other. The female had marks on her neck and stated that the male choked her throughout the struggle and bit her. The male had injuries to his head and face and was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre, where he was medically cleared before being brought to BPS. Neither party was cooperative in providing a statement beyond their initial disclosures. Both parties will be released on an Undertaking in the morning. The male was charged with IPV-Assault and Choke to Overcome Resistance and has a future court date of October 26th, 2026. The female was charged with IPV-Assault and will attend court on October 29th, 2026.

 

A third individual at the scene of the above incident was arrested for Breach of the Peace. While officers were dealing with the IPV situation, the highly intoxicated 31-year-old male repeatedly interfered with officers and would reach into his pockets pretending he had a weapon. He failed to follow directions to leave the area. He will be released in the morning once he is sober.

 

Theft Under / Possession of a Weapon

On August 16th at 7:51 a.m., police arrested a male after he attended a store in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue and stole $23 worth of merchandise. It was also reported that the male was in possession of a knife. During the arrest, officers located the knife and the stolen property. The 30-year-old male was arrested and brought to the BPS detention cells to attend court that morning.

 

Domestic Assault / Mischief Under $5000 / Resist Arrest

On August 16th at approximately 12:09 p.m., police received a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in the 300 block of 7th Street. Upon arrival, a 33-year-old female advised that she had been assaulted by a 35-year-old male who was within the home. The male briefly attempted to barricade himself inside the residence. The door was eventually forced open, and the male was arrested. He was held in custody and will later be released on an Undertaking with a future court date of October 26th, 2026.
