Police News Release - April 24th, 2026

Theft Under $5000

On April 23rd at 7:53 a.m. Police responded to a request from a store in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue regarding a known to them shoplifter who was in their store while banned. The male had just left without paying for meat. Police located and arrested the 43-year-old male suspect in the 600 block of Rosser Avenue. He was identified via security footage from the store. The male was later released via Appearance Notice with a future court date of July 2nd, 2026.

 

Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act / Breach of the Peace      

In the past 24 hours one individual was arrested for PDCIPA and one for Breach of the Peace. Both individuals were highly intoxicated. They were brought t o Brandon Police Service (BPS) detention cells and will be released once calm/sober.

 

Arrest Warrants

Over the past 24 hours, five individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants. Two were held in custody for a morning court appearance, two were released on an Appearance Notice, and one was released on an Undertaking with future court dates.

 

Failure to Attend Court / New Charges

At approximately 1:36 p.m., Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic assault in the area of the 2000 block of McTavish Avenue. A 41-year-old female attended a neighbour’s residence, and it was reported that a known to her 40-year-old male had forcibly kicked in the door to her home nearby while he was possibly armed with a knife. The female was said to have visible minor injuries from him assaulting her such as scratches on her arms and a cut lip. Police responded and confirmed the injuries and noted swelling under her eye as well. The female was intoxicated and not cooperative with Police. It was found that she had an outstanding Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) Warrant for Arrest for Failure to Attend Court. The female was taken into custody on the strength of the WPS Unendorsed Arrest Warrant without issue. She will attend court in the morning on April 24th, 2026.

The male suspect had fled the scene but was subsequently located at 2:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Princess Avenue. When Police attempted the arrest of the accused, he fled on foot initiating a brief foot pursuit. He was apprehended a short distance away. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of two X-Acto knives, in violation of the conditions of his Probation Order. Both individuals were determined to have been consuming alcohol. The male was also held in custody at BPS for court in the morning of April 24, 2026. The male faces charges of Assault, Resist Arrest, and Failure to Comply Probation.
