Important Information Regarding Disaster Financial Assistance for the Heavy Rain Event June 29, 2026
Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon is advising residents who experienced damage during the heavy rain event on June 29th, 2026, that financial assistance may be available through Manitoba's Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) program.
The DFA program assists eligible homeowners, tenants, and individuals with certain uninsurable damages resulting from the heavy rain event. The program is intended to help restore essential property and basic functionality following an emergency event.
Assistance is available for eligible recovery costs; however, DFA is not insurance and does not replace all losses. The program can provide support for eligible response, recovery, and mitigation costs, subject to program requirements and limits.
Residents who sustained damage are encouraged to documenting losses, retaining receipts, taking photographs of damaged property, and review their insurance coverage as soon as possible.
Before applying, residents should contact their insurance provider to determine what coverage may be available to them, as DFA only assists with eligible uninsurable damages. Residential overland flood insurance may be available through some insurers and is not covered by DFA where insurance was available for purchase.
Detailed information on eligibility, the application process, and documentation requirements is available through the Province of Manitoba's Emergency Management Organization website

The City of Brandon remains committed to supporting residents throughout the recovery process and will continue to share information and resources as they become available.
