Council Meeting Highlights - September 21, 2026

Truth and Reconciliation Week 2026

Representatives from the Brandon Friendship Centre provided Council with an overview of activities planned for Truth and Reconciliation Week 2026, taking place from Mon, Sept. 28 to Sun, Oct. 4, 2026. A proclamation and Survivors Flag Raising and Ceremony will be held at Brandon City Hall on Mon, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. For an overview of all events, visit Truth and Reconciliation Week 2026 on Facebook.

Destination Marketing and Event Tourism Service Delivery Model

Council authorized Administration to negotiate a new Destination Marketing and Event Tourism Services Agreement with Brandon First. The agreement will transfer tourism marketing responsibilities currently delivered through Brandon Riverbank Inc. to Brandon First, creating a more streamlined approach to destination marketing and event tourism promotion in Brandon.

Canada Public Transit Fund 10-Year Contribution Agreement

Council authorized the City to enter into the Canada Public Transit Fund 10-year baseline funding contribution agreement. The agreement will provide $3.89 million in federal funding over the next decade to support the City's Transit Bus Replacement Capital Plan, helping renew Brandon Transit’s fleet and maintain reliable public transit service.

Brandon Police Service Recruit Training Program Evaluation – Consulting Services RFP

Council approved a bid from MNP for consulting services for the evaluation of the Brandon Police Service recruit class training program. The evaluation will help assess the effectiveness of the program and identify opportunities to strengthen training for future officers.

By-Laws:

• Council considered proposed amendments to the Traffic By-law related to the 48-hour parking limit for vehicles parked on city streets and voted to maintain the existing by-law. The 48-hour parking limit helps maintain availability and equitable access for residents, visitors and deliveries, prevents vehicle abandonment, and preserves access for public services.
• Council gave first reading to By-law No. 7360, which proposes updates to the City's Animal Control By-law. The proposed changes address the number of pets permitted per household, pet licensing requirements, and general housekeeping provisions.
• Council approved By-law No. 7461 to open a portion of public road located south of Victoria Ave. E. and east of 17th St. E. The road opening will facilitate future development in the area.

The next regular City Council meeting will be held on Mon, Oct. 5, 2026 at 7 p.m.
