City Council Meeting Highlights - Aug. 17, 2026
Brandon, MB – At its regular meeting on Mon, Aug. 17, Brandon City Council discussed a range of initiatives and operational matters. Key highlights are summarized below. View the full agenda at brandon.ca.
Brandon Brine Bash
Council received a presentation from representatives of Brandon Brine Bash regarding plans for the festival’s return in fall 2027, and potential future opportunities for the event.
Council authorized the implementation of the Free Youth Transit Pass Program from September 2026 to August 2027, subject to a contribution agreement with the Province of Manitoba providing funding of up to $1 million. Transit fares for eligible youth participants will be waived for the duration of the provincially funded program.
Southwest Water & Wastewater Servicing
Council approved financing arrangements to support key water and wastewater infrastructure projects in southwest Brandon. The projects will support growth and development in the Bellafield and Brookwood areas and include servicing upgrades associated with planned roadway improvements.
Subdivision Applications and Street Names
- Council approved subdivision applications for 1900-34th St. (Brookwood) and 1955-34th St. (Bellafield) to support continued residential growth in southwest Brandon.
- Council approved the street names McCrimmon Drive and Propp Place for the Bellafield development.
Notice of Motion
Council received a notice of motion directing City Administration to work with Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) to explore a multi-year agreement for mowing provincial roadways within Brandon, with annual inflationary adjustments.
Committee Reports:
- Council received an update from the Audit and Finance Committee.
- Council received recommendations from the Environment and Climate Change Committee regarding energy performance standards for municipal buildings and related advocacy efforts. Council directed Administration to review the recommendations and provide comments at the next Council meeting on Sept. 7.
By-Laws:
- Council approved By-Law No. 7455 and By-Law No. 7459 to rezone property located at 1900-34th St. (Brookwood) and 1955-34th St. (Bellafield) from AG80 Agricultural General 80 to RLD Residential Low Density and OS Open Space. This rezoning supports continued residential growth in southwest Brandon.
- Council gave first reading to By-Law No. 7461 to open a portion of public road south of Victoria Ave. E. and east of 17th St. E. The temporary road opening will facilitate traffic management and accommodate construction activities associated with the Victoria Ave. E. and Perry St. area.
The next regular City Council meeting will be held on Mon, Sept 7, at 7 p.m.
