Street Maintenance

Hot mix asphalt pavement patching is carried out during the summer and fall seasons when hot mix asphalt is available from our local supplier. Cold mix asphalt pothole patching takes place in the early spring and other times of the year when hot mix asphalt is unavailable.

Street crack filling is carried out on various roads to extend the life of the asphalt surface when required. By sealing the cracks helps prevent moisture infiltration under the asphalt, thereby extending the life of the asphalt. When water infiltrates cracks in the spring, it freezes and expands, eventually leading to a pothole.

Gravel roads and backlanes are graded and gravel is added as required. A dust control suppressant is applied to high traffic gravel roads and backlanes that meet specific criteria for volumes of traffic.

Pothole Hotline

To report a pothole call the Pothole Hot line at 204-729-2200.

Street Sweeping

photograph of a street sweeperEach spring streets and boulevards are swept to remove winter sand buildup and litter from our streets. The program runs approximately 6 to 8 weeks from mid April to the end of May and removes up to 1000 sweeper loads of dirt and debris from city streets using over 500,000 gallons of water. The street sweeping program may involve posting of temporary no parking signs, please watch for signs in your area and remove vehicles from the affected streets so as the sweepers complete a thorough job. Failure to remove vehicles may result in a parking ticket and/or tow.

Throughout the remainder of the summer and fall street sweeping is carried out as required.
