  • 2017 Canada Summer Games Bid– The City of Brandon researched, compiled and submitted the sole Manitoba bid to host the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games in 2017; however, it was rejected by the Canada Games Council, which chose, instead, to have the Games hosted in Winnipeg.
  • Hotel Tax Strategy – The City of Brandon successfully implemented a $3/room night fee on short-term hotel and motel stays, revenue from which is remitted by hoteliers to the City and used to support event acquisition, event retention, and/or capital repairs and upgrade initiatives in support of such efforts.
  • Economic Development Strategy – With an Affordable Housing Strategy now complete, City administration’s attention is focused on developing an economic development strategy that maximizes existing business opportunities and attracts new investment.
  • Airport Strategy – The City of Brandon launched a successful bid for regularly-scheduled passenger air service and is now facilitating daily air service from WestJet. Capital improvements planned for the Brandon Municipal Airport to position it for additional flight capacity and better operational efficiency.
  • Highway 10 Lobbying - The City of Brandon partnered with the business sector on lobby efforts to have the Provincial government undertake the twinning of Highway 10 from Brandon to the U.S border.
  • Smart City Strategy – A strong partnership has been forged with Brandon’s post-secondary institutions and regional health authority to ensure that “smart city” concepts which foster an economy “fuelled by knowledge” are incorporated into the City of Brandon’s Economic Development Strategy.
  • Tourism Strategy- The City of Brandon’s established partnerships with Brandon Tourism and Brandon Riverbank Inc., which focuses on proactive event attraction and tourism services, will be incorporated into the City of Brandon’s Economic Development Strategy.
