Residential Snow Clearing Update for Jan.5th

January 5, 2015

Brandon, MB - Efforts by the City of Brandon’s Streets and Roads Department to clear streets from the recent snowfall continues.

Crews have been scheduled in shifts to provide 24-7 plowing coverage this week. There are three graders scheduled each shift, and a sand truck is also always on shift to augment plowing efforts or address any problems in other areas of the City.

Snow clearing efforts in the North Hill area (north of the Assiniboine River) should be complete this evening; however, crews will need to return to clear a number of streets in the area of the 8th Street Bridge once refuse and recycling collection has been completed tomorrow.

Beginning this evening, crews will begin plowing residential streets in the area from 34th Street to the westerly city limits, beginning at Victoria Avenue and stretching south all the way to Patricia Avenue.

Once finished, plows will begin clearing streets south of Richmond Avenue, between 26th Street and 34th Street. Tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan.6th) during the day, plows are scheduled to clear areas west of 34th Street, from Victoria Avenue north to Rosser Avenue. Additional scheduling will be updated tomorrow afternoon.

It is important to note that the above residential areas will not be signed with “No Parking” signage prior to plowing, so residents and motorists can greatly aid the process by watching for snow-clearing equipment in their neighbourhood and endeavoring to park off-street until clearing is complete.

Residents are encouraged to call the City of Brandon Streets and Roads Department at 204-729-2285 or 204-729-2290 if they have specific questions or concerns about the clearing of streets, sidewalks, or snow piled from plowing efforts.

The City of Brandon also reminds residents that the following streets are under Provincial jurisdiction for snow plowing:

  • 18th Street (from south to north)
  • Victoria Avenue from 1st Street to the most westerly City limits
  • 1st Street from Richmond Avenue to the most northerly City limits
  • Richmond Avenue from 18th Street to 65th Street East (PR 344)
  • Trans-Canada Highway (#1 Highway)
  • Grand Valley Road (PR 459)
  • Veterans Way (PR 457)
