Multiple Charges/ Break and Enter/ Theft of Vehicle/Impaired Driving

On January 7, 2020, police responded to a report of a break and enter to a residence in the 200 block of College Ave E after 2:00 am.

The suspect forced his way inside the residence while armed with a knife and threatened to harm the homeowner. He pushed the homeowner to the ground and fled prior to police arrival. The suspect stole the victim’s vehicle in the process. The homeowner did not require medical attention. 

The suspect was located operating the stolen vehicle a few blocks away, shortly after leaving the residence. He was stopped in the 800 block of 1st street and arrested. Police observed signs of impairment from the suspect, so he was also arrested for Impaired Driving. He provided two breath samples over the legal limit.

Investigation also revealed that the suspect was to abide by conditions not to communicate with the victim. The 23-year-old male was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court this afternoon on multiple charges, including Break and Enter, Possess Weapon Dangerous, Uttering Threats, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Assault, Drive While Impaired, Drive Over 80 mg%, and Fail to Comply with Conditions of Recognizance.

 

Use Forged Document

In November 2019, police received a report of two individuals who had altered VLT tickets before cashing them into a business. One suspect received over $300 more than the value of the original ticket, which was only worth $1, and the second suspect received over $400 on a $1 ticket. The business noticed the inconsistency once the tickets were validated.

The business was able to provide video surveillance of the individuals who could then be identified by police.

On January 6, 2020, the 31-year-old male suspect turned himself into police to face the outstanding charges. He will appear in court on March 2, 2020 on a charge of Use Forged Document. The second suspect will face the same charge once located.

 

Theft Under $5000

On October 24, 2019, police received a report of theft of merchandise from a business in the 1000 block of Victoria Ave. Employees verbally confronted the suspect; however, she proceeded to leave without paying for the merchandise. The suspect’s image was captured on video surveillance, and police were able to identify her, but her whereabouts were unknown. A warrant for her arrest was issued.

On January 7, 2020, police located the 40-year-old female suspect in the downtown area. She was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on a charge of Theft Under $5000.

 

Immigration Warrant

On January 6, 2020, an individual attended to Brandon Police Service to have a criminal record check completed; however, police learned there was an outstanding Immigration Warrant in effect for his arrest. The 36-year-old male was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to await appearing at an immigration hearing.

 

Arrest Warrant

On January 6, 2020 shortly before midnight, police came across a vehicle that was being driving with inactive license plates. One of the passengers was found to be the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant. The 30-year-old female was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on charges of Possess Property Obtained By Crime and Fail to Appear.

 

Fail to Comply with Conditions of Recognizance

On January 6, 2020, police responded to a report that a 34-year-old male was at the residence of an individual with whom he was to have no communication with. The male was found hiding in a bathroom of the residence when police arrived. He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on charges of Fail to Comply with Conditions of Recognizance.

 

Fail to comply with Conditions of Undertaking

Three individuals who were to abide by curfews were found to be in breach of their conditions in separate encounters with police overnight. Each individual was arrested. Two will appear in court in March 2020 on charges of Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking. The third individual, a 17-year-old female youth, was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in court today.

 

IPDA/Breach of the Peace

Between 5:00 pm and 9:30 pm, police responded to four separate requests to remove individuals from four separate residences. The suspects were intoxicated by alcohol or under the influence of illicit drugs, and their actions were escalating. Those around them were unable to control their behavior, so the individuals were no longer welcome at the residences. Four individuals were arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre until sober.

A fifth individual was also arrested during this time as he was passed out in a public place with no one to care for him. He too was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre.
