Planning Department
The Planning and Building Inspections Department is a relatively new department for City of Brandon having been created in October 2006. Employees of the Brandon and Area Planning District (BAPD) were brought into the City under the umbrella of Development Services so that City administration may have better control over planning, zoning and building issues within the City.
Located in the BAPD building at 421-9th Street (across from City Hall) the function of this city department is to review and issue building permits focusing primarily on life safety issues. Staff review all building permit applications for compliance with the Development Plan, the City of Brandon Zoning By-law, the Manitoba Building Code, and the City of Brandon Building By-law.
Applications within the City of Brandon for Variation Orders, Conditional Use Orders, Subdivisions, Zoning By-law Amendments, and Development Plan Amendments are all received and processed through this office with approval coming from the Planning Commission, City of Brandon Council or the BAPD Board.
We strongly encourage all potential builders and developers to meet with our staff early in the planning stages of their project to discuss the important “where” and “how” questions.
