Councillor James McCrae

Councillor Jim McCrae began his political career in 1983 when he was elected Alderman for Brandon's Victoria Ward #3. He was elected to the Manitoba Legislature in 1986 as MLA for Brandon West and was re-elected in 1988, 1990 and 1995, serving in the cabinet of Premier Gary Filmon until 1999. During the eleven-year Filmon Administration, Councillor McCrae held numerous cabinet portfolios as well as responsibility for the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission and Manitoba Public Insurance. At various times Councillor McCrae served as a member of the Treasury Board and Government House Leader. He also headed the Department of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Consumer and Corporate Affairs, Co-operative Development, Health, Environment and Education and Training.

 

Councillor McCrae has been a Realtor since 2000. His passion for writing led to the publication of his first novel, "Dancing Winds.” He is currently working on his second novel.

 

Councillor McCrae is also involved in the following committees, boards and community organizations:

 

  • Building Standards Committee (Alternate)
  • Personnel Committee

 

Councillor McCrae devotes his efforts to ensuring effective representation for the residents of the Meadows Ward. He hopes his experience will be helpful in maintaining a strong City Council team, working together to build a bright future for Brandon.

 

Councillor McCrae and his wife Darlene have a family of five adult daughters, their husbands, and ten grandchildren.
