June 2, 2015

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon has now finalized a contract with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1505. The collective agreement was approved by Brandon City Council at its regular meeting on June 1st and had been previously ratified by the ATU Local 1505 membership on May 21st.

The contract, which is retroactive to April 1st, includes general wage increases as follows:

  • April 1st, 2015 - 2%
  • January 1st, 2016 - 2%
  • January 1st, 2017 - 2.5%
  • January 1st, 2018 – 2.5%

Other significant aspects of the negotiated contract include an increase in the shift differential to $0.90/hour for regular hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., and the agreement to remove a Letter of Understanding mandating guaranteed hours of work for Handi-Transit drivers.

“We are always pleased to be able to sit down with our bargaining groups and reach negotiated settlements,” noted City of Brandon Deputy Director of Human Resources Linda Poole. “In this case, the negotiation process over the past few months allowed us to gain efficiencies in a number of areas of the contract, which will reduce the overall cost of operations.”

The forty-five month contract will expire December 31st, 2018. The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1505 currently represents 34 permanent and 6 temporary employees within the City of Brandon.
