2015 Street Sweeping Program Update

May 27, 2015

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Streets and Roads Department wishes to update the public on the progress of its seasonal street and boulevard/sidewalk sweeping program. Sweeping crews have completed their work in many areas of the City, with only a handful of neighbourhoods remaining.

On Tuesday, sweeping was conducted in the Waverly area and, as of today, crews will be moving into the Brookwood area, both east and west of 34th Street. The areas between 34th Street and 26th Street, from Park Avenue south to Richmond Avenue, will be swept next in the rotation, followed by the areas south of Richmond Avenue, between 34th Street and 17th Street East.

Weather-permitting, all sweeping efforts on City streets should be completed by this time next week.

Temporary “No Parking” signage will be in place by 4 p.m. on the day prior to sweeping. The public is asked to watch for signage and park off-street wherever possible, as fines are being enforced as per City of Brandon Traffic By-law No. 5463 (Part 3, Section 37).

Residents may notice sweeping crews leaving the area on their refuse/recycling collection day and returning once collection is complete in the area. In order to allow crews to return to such areas in a timely fashion, the public is reminded to remove empty refuse, recycling, and compost bins from the curb as soon as possible after collection. Also, residents can minimize the potential for any property damage by clearly flagging any underground sprinkler systems that may be present.

Finally, the Streets and Roads Department would like to remind residents that the order in which the different areas of the City are swept is rotated each year to ensure a fair level of service for all residents.
