2022 Flood Protection Subsidy Program

March 24, 2022

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon is bringing back the flood protection subsidy program after a successful 2021 campaign, which saw approximately 200 fixtures installed in homes throughout our community.

The Sewer Back-up Subsidy Program provides subsidy funding for property owners looking to install either a sump pump and pit and/or a backwater valve in their home or business. The construction of new buildings will not be considered for this program.

Subsidy funding is available for up to 75% of the total materials and installation cost up to a maximum of $2,500 for the sump pump and pit and up to a maximum of $1,500 for the backwater valve. Work must be completed by a licensed plumber to qualify for funding. This program is open to all property owners within city limits starting on April 4th, 2022.

To qualify for the 2022 program, property owners must do the following:

  • Obtain a quote from a licensed plumber
    • If both the sump pump and pit as well as the backwater valve components are being installed, the quote must list the two items separately to show individual costs

  • The plumber must supply a drawing that includes:

    • Location and type of back water valve relative to basement plumbing
    • Location of sump pit
    • Discharge location of sump pump on exterior of house
  • Apply for a flood protection permit at the A.R. McDiarmid Building, located at 638 Princess Avenue, or via our online portal at permits.brandon.ca

Applications into the program must be made no later than November 30th, 2022, with all work being completed, inspections done, and paperwork being submitted to the City of Brandon by December 15th, 2022.

Owners are encouraged to have their contractor onsite for all inspections. Further details on the process can be found at City of Brandon - Flood Protection Subsidy Program
