Ukraine Flag Raising Ceremony At Brandon City Hall

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon will be raising the Ukrainian flag at City Hall (410 – 9th Street) on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at approximately 5:30 p.m. with a short ceremony to follow.  

The ceremony will include greetings from Mayor Rick Chrest and other dignitaries, along with the anthems of both Canada and Ukraine being played. Following the ceremony, hot chocolate and coffee will be served in the City Hall Foyer. 

A march to support Ukraine has been organized by Brandon University in collaboration with the Brandon chapter of Ukrainian-Canadian Congress starting at 5 p.m. March participants should meet at the flagpoles at 18th Street and Lorne Avenue. The march will proceed south from Brandon University along 18th Street to Victoria Avenue. On Victoria Avenue, marchers will head east to Ninth Street and then north to Brandon City Hall. 

Residents are encouraged to bring candles, Ukrainian flags, and signs of support. Everyone is invited to come together in solidarity with Ukraine and with the many residents of Brandon and Westman who share Ukrainian heritage and Ukrainian ancestry. The Ukranian flag will be flown at City Hall for 4 days and 4 nights as part of showing our solidarity and support for Ukraine.
