Brandon Fire & Emergency Services Issues Statement Regarding 'Be a Safe Community" Event

December 18, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brandon Fire & Emergency Services would like to advise the public that it is NOT affiliated with any advertising and sponsorship activities being undertaken in the community on behalf of an organization called “Be a Safe Community”.

In recent weeks, BFES personnel have received numerous reports from local businesses that phone solicitation is underway encouraging local businesses to sponsor children to attend a “Be a Safe Community Day” in Brandon on February 17th, 2018, at a local community centre. The event purports to offer “engaging activities for the kids, prizes, food and beverages and a presentation from real live firefighters.”

However, the City of Brandon and Brandon Fire & Emergency Services personnel wish to stress that they are NOT involved in this solicitation, nor are they involved in the planning or presentation of said event.

At this time, the City of Brandon and Brandon Fire & Emergency Services would encourage all Brandon businesses and residents to thoroughly research any phone solicitation of this nature prior to committing any funds.
