Adopt-A-Bed Planting Kicks Off Another Year of ‘Brandon in Bloom’

June 2, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brandon, MB – Another year of vibrant Brandon in Bloom programming brought to you by the City of Brandon Community Development team has kicked off with the launch of the annual Adopt-A-Bed program. This is the third year the City of Brandon has featured the Adopt-a-Bed initiative as part of its Brandon in Bloom programming, and it has found to bring tremendous success in community building, promoting environmental awareness, beautification, heritage preservation, education, and networking.

A group of nearly 70 community volunteers joined with City of Brandon staff over the past several days to plant the various Adopt-A-Bed gardens located at Brandon’s public parks and recreation centres. City staff and volunteers came together with the common goal of beautifying Brandon with environmentally-sustainable practices. Over the course of the summer season, these gardens will be tended to by an assortment of individual volunteers and volunteer community groups.  From planting to weeding to fall clean-up, the continual upkeep of the greenspace will be done by these volunteers at least once a week. This year, many of the beds have been brightened with a red and white colour scheme in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday!

The City of Brandon’s Community Development team are also already hard at work preparing for an official visit from national Communities in Bloom judges from July 17th to 19th. This will be a time for all residents to show the Communities in Bloom organization that Brandon is a vibrant and beautiful community by tidying up their yards and neighbourhoods for the judges’ visit. More information about 2017’s Communities in Bloom Judges’ Visit will be available in the coming weeks.
