2015 Green Cart Program Set To Begin April 21st

April 14, 2015

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Sanitation Department is pleased to announce that its popular Green Cart Program is back for another season!

The residential household and yard organics collection program will officially kick off next week with a weekly/bi-weekly pick-up schedule. To start the season and accommodate spring yard clean-up, four weekly pick-up dates will be offered from the week of April 21st to the week of May 11th, before switching to bi-weekly pick-up on the week of May 19th. Nearing fall yard clean-up, the program will switch back to weekly pick-up, beginning the week of October 13th, and will then conclude the week of November 3rd.

All collection days, no matter whether it is during a period of weekly or bi-weekly collection, will coincide with a household’s regular refuse and recycling pick-up day.

Registered participants will be receiving 2015 route schedules this week. Schedules can also be found on the City of Brandon’s website here. Program participants are reminded to have their Green Cart out for pick-up by 6 a.m. on their scheduled pick-up day and to only use compostable plastic bags or kraft paper bags as bin liners. Participants are also encouraged to rinse their Green Cart out regularly to avoid compost residues or odors. A refresher on composting and what organic materials are and are not accepted by the City of Brandon’s Green Cart Program can be found here.

Meanwhile, the City is still accepting participant registrations for the 2015 Green Cart Program. If you have any questions regarding the Green Cart Program, please send an email to greencart@brandon.ca or call the City of Brandon’s Sanitation Department directly at 204-729-2281.
