First Street Bridge Traffic Flow Switchover Set For Dec. 9th

December 8, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brandon, MB – On behalf of the Province of Manitoba and its contractor, the City of Brandon wishes to advise the public that traffic flow at the site of the First Street Bridge will be switched over to the new bridge structure during the course of the day on Friday, December 9th, weather-permitting. All motorists travelling in the area and/or accessing the First Street Bridge are asked to drive with extra caution and watch for detour signage and workers on-site.

Once all northbound and southbound traffic has successfully been switched over to using the new northbound bridge span, the old bridge structure will be blocked off and demolished to make way for the construction of the new southbound bridge span. Weather-permitting, demolition of the original bridge structure will begin on Monday, December 12th. Completion of the new southbound bridge span is anticipated in November of 2017.

During this second phase of construction on the bridge, all access to First Street at Pacific Avenue will be closed to traffic. All motorists travelling along Pacific Avenue will be required to access First Street by detouring at Third Street or Second Street. Electronic message boards have been placed at the northbound and southbound approaches of the bridge to advise motorists of this change.

The City of Brandon and the Province of Manitoba ask for the public’s continued cooperation and patience during the bridge’s construction.
