City of Brandon Green Cart Program Extended to Friday, Nov. 18th

November 14, 2016

The City of Brandon's Sanitation Department wishes to advise participants of its Green Cart Program that daily pick-up will continue from Tuesday, November 15th through to Friday, November 18th, after which the program will end for the 2016 season.

The program began in mid-April this year and had been scheduled to wrap up at the end of the first week of November. However, warm weather allowed for an extra week of pick-up to be provided last week, and with mild temperatures in the forecast for this week, the department has made the decision to provide another additional week of pick-up before the program wraps up for the year.

Participants with yard waste remaining in their Green Bins can set them out on their scheduled collection day from Tuesday, November 15th through to Friday, November 18th for pick-up.

After the program ends, participants are encouraged to continue placing all kitchen waste and other accepted organics into their Green Bin during the winter months. If your bin fills up prior to the start of the 2017 program, you can empty it at any one of the City’s compost drop-off depots listed here: http://www.brandon.ca/sanitation/collection/green-cart-program/compost-depots.

Through the 2015 Green Cart Program, nearly 1,800 tonnes of organic material was diverted away from being dumped in the landfill, and this year’s program is on track to exceed that.

Applications are always being accepted from those interested in signing up to participate in next year’s Green Cart Program here: http://www.brandon.ca/sanitation/collection/green-cart-program/green-cart-program-signup.
