Controlled Burn of Tree Debris To Occur February 23rd & February 24th

The City of Brandon Community Services Department wishes to advise the public that it will be undertaking a controlled burn of tree debris within Eleanor Kidd Park, located to the immediate east of the David Thompson Bridges on 18th Street North, beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23rd.

The debris includes that from recent flood clean-up efforts, along with a number of Dutch Elm diseased trees. The City of Brandon undertakes the removal of diseased, dead or dying Dutch Elm trees in accordance with guidelines laid out by the Province of Manitoba.

The department has applied for and received the proper permitting from Brandon Fire and Emergency Services, and the fire will be monitored by Parks staff. It is anticipated the burning should be complete by 8 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24th.

With public safety in mind, the City of Brandon asks that all members of the public stay away from the area until the controlled burning has been completed.
