City of Brandon to Host Public Budget Forum Jan. 7th

December 17, 2015

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon invites all members of the public to provide their feedback on the proposed 2016 municipal budget at a community forum on the evening of Thursday, January 7th, 2016, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Main Foyer of Brandon City Hall, 410-9th St.

The evening forum will include a brief overview of the proposed budget led by City Administration and will then move into break-out discussions led by members of Brandon City Council. Mayor and Councillors will be asking for public feedback on the proposed budget and on where they would like Council to focus its future spending priorities.

The 2016 proposed budget, which will be tabled with City Council at its Monday, December 21st meeting, calls for an average municipal tax increase of 1.78%. For a residential property assessed at the 2016 Brandon average, the proposed increase represents an increase in municipal taxes of approximately $32.

Following the January 7th public budget forum, City Council is scheduled to deliberate the 2016 proposed budget on Friday, January 15th and Saturday, January 16th, 2016. Deliberations will be held in the Council Chamber (2nd floor, Brandon City Hall, 410-9th St.) and are open to the public and media to observe.

All proposed budget documents can be viewed on the City of Brandon Treasury Department’s webpage here: http://www.brandon.ca/budget/2016-budget.
