Brandon Community Clean Sweep 2016

April 22, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon and the Brandon Environment Committee invite all members of the community to join them in participating in a Community Clean Sweep event on Saturday, April 30th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Princess Park.

People of all ages are invited to take part in the environmentally-minded event, which will see participants dispatched in groups to clean litter from sidewalks, boulevards, and other public greenspaces across Brandon. This year’s event is being highlighted by a friendly “Brandon City Council Challenge”, with Councillors Kris Desjarlais, Jan Chaboyer, Jeff Fawcett and Lonnie Patterson competing against each other to determine which of their wards can see the most bags of garbage collected.

Registration for the Community Clean Sweep event begins at 9 a.m., with the clean-up scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A volunteer appreciation BBQ party for participants will be held in Princess Park from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Gloves and bags will be provided for participants. In the event of rain or inclement weather, the 2016 Community Clean Sweep event will be rescheduled for Saturday, May 7th. Pre-registration is encouraged for the April 30th clean-up by visiting www.brandonenvironment.ca or by calling 204-729-2171.

The Brandon Environment Committee wishes to thank its sponsors, the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation and Komfort Kitchen, for helping to make this year’s Community Clean Sweep event possible. Plans are also underway by the Brandon Environment Committee for a family-friendly “Eco Day” celebration on Saturday, May 28th, at the Global Market in downtown Brandon. Details on that event will be released in the coming weeks.
