Public Open House on Proposed Changes to Brandon Zoning By-law

August 10, 2015

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Planning & Building Safety Department invites residents to view proposed changes to the Zoning By-law at a public open house on the afternoon of Thursday, August 13th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Main Foyer at Brandon City Hall.

Planning & Building Safety Department staff began working on the review of the by-law several months ago and are now inviting the public to provide feedback on recommended changes, which include:

  • The addition of graphics to make the by-law easier to understand;
  • The allowance of porches in required front and side yards;
  • Clarification of rules on driveways and front yard parking in residential zones;
  • The addition of accessible parking signage requirements; and
  • Clarification of regulations on home-based businesses, such as where they can be located

A number of other housekeeping changes are being proposed in order to make the by-law more user-friendly, including the updating and colour-coding of maps, and to bring it in line with the current Manitoba Planning Act and Brandon & Area Planning District Development Plan.

The draft revised by-law can be viewed on the City of Brandon’s website here. Following the public consultation, the revisions are scheduled to be presented to Brandon City Council at its regular meeting on August 17th.
