Grandparent Scams

On February 24, 2023, police received four reports of victims who had been defrauded of money because of a recent grandparent scam.  The victims lost money ranging from $5000-$11,000.  In each case the victims received a phone call claiming their relative was in some type of trouble and needing financial assistance.  A suspect attended to the homes of the victims and personally collected the money.  Another individual claiming to be a lawyer then contacted the victims requesting more money.

Assault Peace Officer

On February 24, 2023 police received a report of a BCC Correctional Officer who had been assaulted by a 26-year-old inmate on Feb 23.  The officer did not require medical attention.  The inmate was arrested for the assault and will appear in court on a charge of Assault.  He remains in custody a BCC.

 

Identity Fraud

On February 15, 2023, police conducted a traffic stop in which police observed unstamped tobacco within the vehicle.  Further investigation into the 50-year-old male suspect revealed that he was also in possession of numerous ID cards that contained not only his image, but a variety of other names.  He was also in possession of one ID that was reported stolen.  The suspect was also bound by a release order no to possess any ID that did not belong to him. 

On February 24, 2023, he was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service.  He will appear in court today on charges of Identity Fraud, Possess Forged Document, Possess Stolen Credit Card and Fail to Comply with Release Order.

 

Theft Under $5000

On February 6, 2023 an off duty member of BPS was approached by employees at a business in the 2600 block of Victoria Ave as they just had a female steal merchandise and leave the business.  The female was located by the member several blocks away, and the merchandise was recovered.  On February 24, 2023, the 25-year-old female was arrested and later released to appear in court on May 1, 2023 on a charge of Theft Under $5000.

 

Assault Cause Bodily Harm

On February 24, 2023 police responded to a report of an assault in the 600 block of McDiarmid Ave shortly before 3:00 pm.  A bystander tried to intervene but was punched in the nose before the suspects fled.  Police located the 24-year-old male suspect and a 28-year-old female nearby. 

Both individuals were also found to be suspects from a theft complaint in which they stole merchandise from a business in the 3400 block of Victoria on both February 7 and February 21, 2023.  The suspects were identified through images on security footage.

Following his arrest, the 24-year-old male was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on charges of Assault Cause Bodily Harm, and Theft Under $5000 X2.

The 28-year-old female was arrested and released to appear in court on May 1, 2023 on charges of Theft Under $5000 X2.

 

Fail to Comply with Release Order

On February 24, 2023 at approximately 10:00 pm, police conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of 2nd street.  The 29-year-old male driver of the vehicle was found to be suspended from driving.  He was also to abide by a court imposed curfew.  He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today.

 

Fail to comply with Release Order

On February 24, 2023, shortly before midnight, police responded to a report of an unwanted intoxicated male causing damage inside a residence.  The 17-year-old male suspect was failing to to abide by release conditions.  Following his arrest he was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will be released once sober to appear in court on April 4, 2023.

 

Breach of the Peace

On February 25, 2023 shortly before 2:00 am, police responded to a report of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance at a business in the 200 block of 18th street N.  He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service to prevent his actions from continuing.

 

Arrest Warrants

On February 24, 2023 police located and arrested a 30-year-old male who was wanted on outstanding charges of Fail to comply with Probation.  He was lodged at Brandon Police Service to appear in court today.

On February 23, 2023, a 24-yar-old female turned herself in to Brandon Police as she was aware of an outstanding warrant for her arrest.  She was lodged and will appear in court today on charges of Theft Under $5000, Fail to Attend Court and Fail to comply with Undertaking.
