Garage Break and Enter

On Friday morning, a homeowner in the south end of the city reported their garage entered sometime overnight, through an unlocked walk in door. The unknown suspect(s) stole two bottles of liquor.

Theft from Retailer

At 10:45 a.m. yesterday, a retailer on 18th Street North reported a male entered a change room with a $100 pair of jeans, and then left the store wearing the new pants while leaving his own older pants in the change room. The male was located later in the afternoon in the 600 block of Rosser Avenue, still wearing the new pants. Both switched out wardrobe items have been happily reunited with the original owners, and a 41-year-old male from Brandon will appear in court in June, facing a single charge of theft under $5,000.

Domestic Disturbance

At 11:45 a.m. yesterday, police attended to a disturbance at an east end residence. A dispute between the adult male and female had taken place, during which time the female left the residence with their child and went to her car. The male then used a hockey stick to smash both side mirrors off her vehicle while she and the child were inside the car. A 34-year-old male from Brandon will appear in Provincial Court in June, facing a single charge of mischief to property. There were no injuries as a result of the dispute.

Family Disturbance

At 1:50 p.m. yesterday, police attended a family disturbance in the sound end of the city. An intoxicated female was involved in an argument with her partner and sister, and slashed a tire on her sister’s vehicle. As police arrived, the female fled the area. Police apprehended the suspect a short distance away without incident, and held her in BPS cells for release once sober. A 24-year-old female from Brandon will appear in court in June, facing a single charge of mischief to property.

Fraud Fare

At 2:15 p.m. yesterday, an on duty police officer observed a female fleeing from a taxicab parked at the front doors of the Brandon Police Service. The officer pursued the female on foot and apprehended her near 11th St and McTavish Avenue, where she was arrested without incident. She is charged with fraudulently obtaining taxi fare for this offence, and two other same incidents over the past few months. She was released from custody and will answer to those charges when she appears in Provincial Court in June.

Drug Possession, Prohibited Driving

At 5:00 p.m. yesterday, police stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of 26th Street. The driver lied about her name in order to avoid identification, as she is prohibited from driving. Police positively identified the female in a short period of time, and arrested her for the driving offence.  A search incidental to arrest resulted in officers locating a quantity of cocaine in individually similar sized packages, prepared for resale. The female was released from custody and will appear in court in June. She faces charges of prohibited driving, public mischief, personation with intent, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and failing to comply with a release order.

Assault with a Weapon  

At 2:40 a.m. today, police attended a family disturbance at a residence in the downtown area.  A female in the home had armed herself with a knife and threatened to harm herself. On arrival, the 30-year-old female’s boyfriend disclosed that she had stabbed him in the back. The victim had a single puncture wound to his back, but refused medical attention. Officers arrested and removed from the female from the home, and held her in BPS cells overnight. The accused is to be released later today when sober on several conditions, and will appear in Provincial Court in May, facing a single charge of assault with a weapon.

Other Arrests

  • At 1:55 p.m. yesterday, a 27-year-old female of Brandon was arrested on an outstanding warrant of arrest for impaired driving related offences. She appeared before a Justice and was released to appear in court next week to answer to the charges.
  • At 5:00 p.m. yesterday, a 21-year-old female from Brandon was arrested while walking in the 100 block of Lorne Avenue, as police were aware of outstanding warrants for her arrest, from an incident in Brandon three weeks ago.  In early March, this female and a co-accused stole a tablet from another female, using violence during the theft by assaulting the victim. The female arrested was held in BPS cells overnight and will appear before a Justice today facing a charge of robbery with violence.
  • At 10:20 p.m. yesterday, a 22-year-old female from Brandon was taken into custody at her residence on an outstanding warrant of arrest for assault. She was released from custody and will appear in provincial court in June.
  • At 10:55 p.m. yesterday, male known to police was stopped in the downtown area as he was outside of his residence contrary to a court-imposed curfew. The 23-year-old male will appear in provincial court at the end of May, and faces one charge of breach of probation.
  • At 12:25 a.m. today, a homeowner in the university area reported an unknown male banging on the door of their residence. Police located an intoxicated 32-year-old male from Brandon close by, matching the description of the unknown male. Police held the male in BPS cells overnight, for release later today when sober.
  • At 2:55 a.m. today, police attended to the area of the 400 block of 10th Street for a disturbance related call. A 36-year-old male from Brandon was found there, and was intoxicated. Police held the male in cells overnight for release later today once he is sober.
