Stabbing

On March 31, 2022, at approximately 12:42 pm, police responded with BFES to a report of a male who was bleeding in the 900 block of Rosser Ave.  Investigation revealed that the 33-year-old male victim had been stabbed by a 40-year-old male suspect.  The victim was transported to the hospital where he is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the area prior to the arrival of police at the scene.  Police located and arrested him by 2:10 pm.  He was also the subject of outstanding arrest warrants for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Fraud under $5000, Assault, Utter Threats and Fail to Attend Court.  The suspect was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today with an additional charge of Aggravated Assault.

While the suspect was in custody, police received information that he was responsible for an additional assault. Investigation revealed that on March 29, 2022, the suspect assaulted another victim with whom he was to have no communication.  The assault occurred at a residence.  The victim in this matter did not require medical attention.  The 33-year-old male suspect will also appear in court today on separate charges of Assault and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.

Edit:  The 40-year-old is the suspect.  The 33-year-old is the victim.

Assault

On March 31, 2022, police responded to a report of a suspect who was attempting to steal merchandise at a business in the 3400 block of Victoria Ave at approximately 4:00 pm.  An employee of the business confronted the 27-year-old male suspect, but was assaulted when the suspect struck the employee with a “Mr. Solid” chocolate bunny.  The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.

The suspect fled the business, but was located and arrested nearby.  He was still in possession of stolen merchandise, which was returned to the business.  He was later released and will appear in court on June 2, 2022 on charges of Assault and Theft Under $5000.

Edit:  This is NOT an April Fool’s Day joke.  While the weapon of choice in this case may have been atypical of what a suspect would normally use, it does not change the fact that retail employees face a daily challenge when dealing with theft.  Suspects who steal from businesses can often be unpredictable and violent towards employees, and in some cases they may use whatever weapon is available to them at the time.
