Doors Open Volunteers

The City of Brandon is currently seeking qualified and interested citizens to volunteer during the Door’s Open Brandon Event taking place July 24th and 25th, 2010. Opportunities are available within historical homes and businesses looking for support in directing the public throughout their properties, as well as handing out historical information on the building(s). Volunteers are also needed to assist in barbecuing burgers, handing out balloons, and assisting in clean-up at the Door’s Open wind up event.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assisting historical home and business owners to direct visitors;
  • Interacting with the public
  • Handing out historical information
  • Serving burgers and hotdogs
  • Blowing up balloons (helium tank provided
  • Some assistance in taking down tables may be required
  • Other related tasks

 

Experience and Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Independent and able to work with limited supervision
  • Able to follow direction and policies
  • Enthusiastic about Brandon’s history and/or architecture
  •  

    Volunteer Requirements

  • Must have own method of transportation;
  • Must be able to volunteer Saturday July 24th and/or Sunday July 25th, 2010
  • Must have good verbal communication skills
  • Report to all scheduled shifts and meetings in a punctual and professional manner
  • Notify the Coordinator in advance if unable to attend shift
  •  

    Supervision

  • All volunteers will be responsible to the City of Brandon Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee
  • Supervision may be provided by the Heritage Coordinator or Heritage Administrative Assistant
  • Volunteers may be asked to cooperate in an annual review and assessment of the Volunteer Development Program and their overall experience volunteering with the City of Brandon
