Brandon Environment Committee Launches New Website

Residents of Brandon can now “Go Green” by going online with the launch of a new website dedicated to the community’s environmental programs and initiatives.

Spearheaded by the Brandon Environment Committee, www.brandonenvironment.ca provides a one-stop shop of sorts for people to learn more about the environmental programs and events that exist in the community.

“The site provides people with a comprehensive list of all the ways the City of Brandon and the Brandon Environment Committee have been working together to make our community a greener place for everyone,” says Lindsay Hargreaves, CLER (Community Led Emissions Reduction) coordinator for the City of Brandon and the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation. “It’s our hope the site will encourage the public to become more educated about how easy it is to be ‘green-minded’ in their daily lives.”

Along with a full list of environmental program and resources currently available in Brandon, the site features environmentally friendly tips for residents that they can integrate into their daily work routines and lifestyles.

The new website also features an interactive “Learn” page, created in partnership by the City of Brandon and students of Assiniboine Community College’s 2012 Web Design Class. By clicking on the student-designed icons, people can discover more about the different ways their community is dedicated to environmental sustainability.

“If you want to learn about Manitoba Hydro’s programs aimed at reducing energy consumption, just click on the Manitoba Hydro building icon,” explains Hargreaves. “Similarly, if you want to learn more the City of Brandon’s environmental strategic plan, relevant bylaws and other municipal plans and reports, you would click on the City Hall icon.”

The website will also feature a “Blog” section, which will be updated regularly by members of the Environment Committee with environmental news and events.
