Brandon Police Association Membership Ratifies Collective Agreement
At a ratification meeting on the evening of Jan.30th, the Brandon Police Association membership ratified a one-year collective agreement with the City of Brandon. The agreement, retroactive to Jan.1st, 2012, represents a 2% wage increase across the board.
Brandon Police Association President Kevin Loewen says the deal received the support of a strong majority of the membership in attendance.
“By ratifying this agreement in relatively short order, the membership has played a significant role in assisting with the budget conscious environment the City is living in this year,” Loewen said.
The membership’s ratification of the collective agreement follows several weeks of bargaining between the City and the Association, dating back to November of 2011. The tentative agreement was reached on Jan.13th, 2012.
With the Association’s acceptance, the City of Brandon’s Personnel Committee will now recommend the deal to City Council for ratification at the Feb.6th regular meeting of Council. Further details of the contract will be released at that time.
The Brandon Police Association currently represents 82 sworn members and 38 non-sworn members in the City of Brandon.
