Brown Block Demolition on 10th Street
An amended permit for demolition of the Brown block will be issued today, Friday, September 16, 2011. The property owner has decided to provide stabilization for the common party wall between the Brown Block and the Strand Theatre Building through reinforcement measures on their own property.
Activity on the demolition work will commence on Monday, September 19th with the construction of the needed reinforcing work and stabilization. This work will not be readily visible to the general public as the work will be conducted within the existing building. This portion of the work is expected to take one to two weeks.
Once the stabilization work is complete, the demolition of the building will commence, followed by backfilling the area and cladding of the remaining support structure at the party wall. Tenth Street will be required to be closed for approximately one week for the purpose of removal of the water and sewer service connections to the Brown Block.
The land owners estimate all work will be completed by October 31, 2011.
