Media Release: Brown Block Update
Demolition of Brown Block Progressing
Brandon, MB – Hand demolition continues this week on the Brown Block structure on 10th Street.
Work to remove the semi-collapsed building began in mid-to-late September and included the construction of a permanent wall inside the soon-to-be razed building to ensure the structural integrity of the Strand Theatre building that sits next door to it.
Once hand demolition is complete, machine demolition of the remaining structure will follow, with the entire building anticipated to be down by the end of the week.
From there, site clean-up and backfill will commence and barring any unforeseen circumstances, it’s expected the entire project will be wrapped up by the end of November.
City Manager Scott Hildebrand says the nature of the work is methodic and, therefore, can sometimes precipitate delays.
However, Hildebrand says the City of Brandon is looking forward to the day when the Brown Block project is complete.
