Additional funding for 2011 Sump Pump & Backwater Valve Program
On September 26, 2011, Brandon City Council approved additional funding in the amount of $30,000 for the 2011 Sump Pump and Backwater Valve Program. The Province of Manitoba has recently matched that contribution and subsidy funding is now available specifically for property owners who have left their names on a wait list with the Planning & Building Department.
Criteria for accessing the additional 2011 funds are as follows:
- Name has previously been placed on the wait list with City’s Planning & Building Department;
- Both a sump pump and a backwater valve must be or must have been installed;
- Installations must have occurred no earlier than January 1, 2011;
- Installations must be able to be completed no later than February 1, 2012;
- Installations must have been completed by a licensed plumber holding an active City of Brandon contractor’s license;
- A Flood Protection Permit must be obtained from our office at a cost of $70.00;
- An inspection(s) by an inspector with the City of Brandon is mandatory;
- For components already installed proof must be provided showing the contractor who supplied and installed the component and the installation date (an inspection by a city inspector is required to verify work complete);
- For components not yet installed, you must provide two quotes for the work to be done and, if installing a sump pump, a drawing indicating how the system is going to be installed and how the water is going to be discharged; and
- This is the only opportunity available to receive retro-active payment on work already completed prior to acceptance in the subsidy program but you must be willing to install both components to receive funding.
The new program will run in 2012 and 2013 will subsidize the installation of either a sump pump or a backwater valve and will run on a first-come, first-served basis. There will not be a waiting list for the 2012 and 2013 program and retro-active applications will not be accepted.
