City of Brandon Suspending Public Entry to Several Civic Facilities; Modified Service Delivery to Continue by Departments

March 18, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brandon, MB – In an effort to balance its desire to protect employees and the general public against the potential spread of COVID 19 (Novel Coronavirus) in Brandon with the need to continue providing essential municipal services to the community, the City of Brandon has made the very important decision to close a number of its civic facilities to the general public, EFFECTIVE THURSDAY, MARCH 19TH AT 5 P.M. UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

City of Brandon departments are committed to providing modified service delivery however possible. A full list of facility closures and modified public services, along with detailed information on how residents and customers can continue to conduct business with the City of Brandon or access City of Brandon services, can be found at http://www.brandon.ca/covid-19-updates.

General enquiries relating to municipal services can be directed to the City of Brandon Enquiry Line at 204-729-2186 during regular business hours or can be submitted online at http://www.brandon.ca/contact-us.

While pausing/modifying municipal service delivery has been a very difficult decision to make, Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest is stressing the municipality’s main concern remains protecting its staff and citizens from potential exposure to the virus.

“The City of Brandon must emphasize its responsibility to continue to provide essential municipal services to our community throughout this pandemic response. To that end, it is imperative that we implement extraordinary measures to keep our staff healthy so they can continue to support our essential services,” Mayor Chrest said. “We would gratefully ask for everyone’s assistance and patience in this highly-unprecedented time. The consequences of doing too much are negligible; the consequences of doing too little may be catastrophic.”
