BU West Neighbourhood Zoning Project Public Open House - Tuesday, March 19th

March 7, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Brandon’s Planning & Buildings Department wishes to invite all interested members of the public to attend an upcoming open house on the ongoing BU West Neighbourhood Zoning Project, set for Tuesday, March 19th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Brandon Design Studio space of the Cultural Resource Centre at the A.R. McDiarmid Civic Complex, 638 Princess Avenue (Entrance B).

The process of updating zoning in the existing residential neighbourhood to the immediate west of Brandon University began last fall, with an initial public open house event held in September 2018. Feedback from area residents at that public open house event helped City of Brandon administration narrow the project’s focus to that of the proposed re-zoning of both sides of 21st  Street between Princess Avenue and Victoria Avenue. Properties along the east side of 21st Street have been zoned Educational & Institutional since 1983 (based on Brandon University’s previous master plan’s intentions of expansion in that direction), but are now proposed for re-zoning to that of Residential in order to better reflect current residential property rights and to proactively prepare for any further development in the area.

Impacted residents and stakeholders, as well as the general public, are invited to attend March 19th’s follow-up public open house to provide any feedback they may have on the proposed re-zoning as noted above.

City of Brandon Planning & Buildings Department staff are also available for one-on-one meetings with residents and property owners until April 5th by contacting Senior Planner Andrew Mok at 204-729-2115 to schedule an appointment.
