Streets and Roads Department Starting Spring Cleanup

April 17, 2015

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Streets and Roads Department would like to advise the public that it will soon start its spring sweeping program to clean streets, sidewalks and boulevards of winter debris.

Beginning on the evening of Sunday, April 19th and running through to Thursday, April 23rd, an overnight crew will be sweeping streets in the City’s downtown core area, focusing on areas in and around Princess Avenue, Rosser Avenue, Lorne Avenue and Louise Avenue.

On the morning of Monday, April 20th, day crews will begin cleaning the Green Acres/East End area and will then move westerly across the City in conjunction with the City’s Sanitation Collection Schedule, finishing in the West End area. Crews have been conducting a once-over pass of the West End this week as an initial clean until crews can return to the area for a full clean.

Residents may notice sweeping crews leaving the area on collection day and returning once refuse and recycling collection is complete in the area. In order to allow crews to return to such areas in a timely fashion, the public is reminded to remove empty refuse, recycling and compost bins from the curb as soon as possible after collection.

Temporary “No Parking” signage will be in place by 4 p.m. on the day prior to sweeping. The public is asked to watch for signage and park off-street wherever possible.

As well, crews will be sweeping winter sanding debris off of boulevards and City right-of-ways (the first few feet of lawn if there is no boulevard), so residents can minimize the potential for any property damage by clearly flagging any underground sprinkler systems that may be present.

The City of Brandon appreciates the public’s assistance in keeping Brandon’s streets, sidewalks, boulevards and public spaces clean and enjoyable for all.
