City Seeking Community Feedback on Final Valleyview Rec Hub Design

April 20, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Community Services Department is inviting members of the community to help determine a preferred design for a new Valleyview Recreation Hub prior to planned construction this summer.

Following numerous consultations with ward residents, work by City administration and Winnipeg-based consultants Architecture 49 have narrowed plans down to two conceptual layouts for the new recreation hub and splash pad, which is to be constructed within the greenspace adjacent to the Valleyview Community Centre and the Valleyview Centennial School.  Community feedback is being sought on which layout will best transform the public greenspace into a vibrant four-season recreation area.

A pair of come-and-go public open houses will be hosted on Tuesday, April 24th to allow the public to view the proposed layouts and provide feedback. The first will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the T.E. Snure Room of the A.R. McDiarmid Civic Complex (638 Princess Avenue), and the second from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Valleyview Community Centre (77 Whillier Drive).

Project consultants will be on-hand to walk participants through a number of storyboards with proposed designs and costs for the proposed spray pad and other site amenities. After evaluation of final community feedback, the City of Brandon anticipates a design tender will be advertised in short order, with construction slated to take place this summer and fall.

The Valleyview Recreational Hub is the fifth such hub to be created in Brandon, as per the City of Brandon’s current Recreation Facilities Master Plan. For more information about the Valleyview Recreation Hub project, the public is encouraged to contact the City of Brandon’s Manager of Parks Operations Bryce Wilson at 204-729-2282.
