‘Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out!’ Fire Prevention Week 2017

September 29, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon and the Brandon Fire and Emergency Services Public Education Section are urging families in Brandon to practice their home fire escape plan as part of Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 8th through October 14th, 2017.  This year’s theme is “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out!”

Fire and smoke move faster than you do. There is no time to figure out how to escape your home AFTER a fire starts. Practice an escape plan BEFORE there is a fire so you can get out safely.  As part of an effective home escape plan be sure:

1.            That you have working smoking alarms on every level of your home;

2.            That you have at least two ways out of every room; and

3.            That you have a safe meeting place where all family members will gather outside of the home.

Remember to practice your home fire escape plan twice a year (summer and winter) with all the members of your family!

Brandon Fire & Emergency Services will be recognizing Fire Prevention Week this year with public tours of the No.1 Firehall on Tuesday, October 10th from 1:30 p.m. -3:30 p.m.  Brandon Fire & Emergency Services will also be hosting a pair of “Safety Days” featuring fire safety item displays, door prizes and free giveaways for children, with the first being held at Canadian Tire on Friday, October 13th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the second at Home Depot on Sunday, October 15th, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to attend!
