Brandon, MB - The City of Brandon’s Finance Department would like to advise the public that 2017 tax bills have now been mailed out to property owners. When you receive your tax bill, please take a few moments to read the accompanying leaflets for more information on the City of Brandon’s 2017 Budget and this year’s municipal property tax details. If you own any property in the City of Brandon and do not receive a tax bill by Wednesday, May 31st, 2017, please contact the Finance Department by phoning 204-729-2228 or 204-729-2592 or by sending an email to taxes@brandon.ca.
Taxes are due by end of business day (5 p.m.) on Friday, June 30th, 2017. Owners are responsible for payment of taxes, whether or not a bill is received through the mail. Brandon City Hall office hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you are mailing your payment, please allow a minimum of three (3) business days to meet the June 30th deadline. Also, those paying by Internet or tele-banking should take notice of how many days their financial institution indicates it will take before the payee receives the funds. The City must receive the funds by the end of business day on Friday, June 30th.
A discount of 0.5% is applied to all 2017 property tax pre-payments received on or before Wednesday, May 31st, 2017. Penalties on unpaid taxes will accrue commencing July 1st, 2017, at a rate of 1.25% per month, as per City of Brandon By-law No.6658.
If you wish to avoid the long line-ups nearing the June 30th payment deadline, the City of Brandon will permit you to leave a post-dated cheque, along with your tax stub, at the Finance Department on the main floor of Brandon City Hall and the payment will be processed at month-end. Receipts are not generally mailed out, as your cancelled cheque can serve as a receipt. However, if you require a receipt, please be sure to clearly indicate on the payment stub “Receipt Required”.
As a further service to taxpayers, annual taxes may also be paid monthly by automatic bank withdrawal using the City of Brandon’s Tax Installment Plan (TIP). Discounts and penalties do not apply when enrolled in the TIP program. The application deadline for enrollment in the TIP program for 2017 is Thursday, June 15th.
