City of Brandon to Host Public Budget Forum Jan. 11th

December 28, 2016

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon invites all members of the public to provide their feedback on the proposed 2017 municipal budget at a community forum on the evening of Wednesday, January 11th, 2017, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Main Foyer of Brandon City Hall, 410-9th St.
The evening forum will include an overview of the 2017 proposed budget led by City Administration, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session led by members of Brandon City Council. Mayor and Councillors will be asking for public feedback on the proposed budget, as well as where the public would like Council to focus its future spending priorities.

The 2017 proposed budget will be tabled with Brandon City Council at its Monday, January 9th regular meeting. The budget as proposed includes a municipal tax increase of 2.95%. For an average residential property assessed at approximately $250,000, this would lead to a $53 increase in municipal taxes.

Following the January 11th public budget forum, City Council is scheduled to deliberate the 2017 proposed budget on Friday, January 20th and Saturday, January 21st, 2017. Deliberations will be held in the City of Brandon Council Chamber on the 2nd floor of Brandon City Hall, and are open to the public and media to observe.
