Brandon Revs Up For Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour

November 18, 2014

Brandon, MB – Heads up, Brandon hockey fans - the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour is arriving in your city soon! The outdoor celebration of all things hockey invades the south grounds of Brandon’s Keystone Centre on Saturday, November 29th and Sunday, November 30th, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Presented by Rogers Communications, the FREE, family-friendly event will be jam-packed with interactive kids’ booths, food concessions, local bands and, of course, a marquee Sunday afternoon NHL match-up, complete with Ron MacLean broadcasting live-on-location from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio. With a halfdozen dates of the cross-Canada tour now in the books, buzz is building for Brandon’s festival stop.

“When you step inside the Rogers Hometown Hockey festival site, you’re going find everything from a personalized hockey jersey-making station, to an Xbox gaming tent, to a shoot-your-own Sportsnet segment ‘broadcast booth’,” says Jackie Keyes, Executive Director with Brandon First. “Whether you’re the proud parent of the next hockey superstar, or you’ve had a lifelong passion for the game, the Rogers Hometown Hockey Festival is sure to appeal to the hockey fanatic in all of us.”

The weekend festival will also feature an outdoor ball hockey area, a hockey obstacle course, an air hockey tent, and an outdoor stage for local band performances.

While scheduling is still being finalized, already confirmed as the main stage host is four-time Olympic medallist and former Canadian Women’s Hockey Team member Jennifer Botterill. Botterill will be joined by NHL alumnus Morris Lukowich for a number of special appearances during the weekend event, including a special gift presentation on Sunday afternoon with Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest.

In conjunction with the Tour, Rogers is also giving local hockey and ringette teams the opportunity to compete for a once-in-a-lifetime NHL trip via its “Cheer Like Never Before” contest. Westman teams are encouraged to upload a video of their “best cheer” to the Rogers Hometown Hockey website PRIOR to midnight on Nov.23rd, and then share their video for voting. More information, including full contest rules and how to submit a video, can be found at http://www.hometownhockey.com/events/15/submit.

The top local “Cheer Like Never Before” video will be announced on-site at the festival during the Sunday, November 30th afternoon broadcast of the match-up between the Vancouver Canucks and the Detroit Red Wings. The local winner will then compete against winning teams from across Canada for an NHL grand prize package worth more than $50,000!

“Sunday’s live pre-game broadcast is truly Brandon’s chance to show its love for our nation’s game on a national stage,” adds Keyes. “We’re celebrating 100 years of hockey in Manitoba this year, so don’t miss your chance to be in the crowd as we show Canada how hockey is done on the Prairies!”

Gates open each day at noon, with parking available to the south of the Keystone Centre’s 18th Street entrance. A full event schedule will be posted to www.hometownhockey.com in the coming days.
