Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s continued efforts to secure its place as a strong regional hub for daily commuter air service have been buoyed by today’s confirmation of a forthcoming expansion of WestJet service at the Brandon Municipal Airport.
As part of its 2015-2016 winter schedule, WestJet has announced that it will begin offering an additional daily Brandon-Calgary return flight out of the Brandon Municipal Airport early next year. A new early-morning Brandon departure and a late-evening return to Brandon will be available to travellers for flights beginning January 15th, 2016. WestJet has been running a successful once-a-day, daytime Brandon-Calgary return flight schedule out of the Brandon Municipal Airport since September 2013.
“By doubling the service level out of Brandon and allowing for same-day travel virtually anywhere in the world, WestJet has truly opened the door to a whole new range of business and leisure travel options in Western Manitoba,” says Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest. “Not only will it appeal to those who wish to travel to Calgary, but this new flight time will also allow for an arrival in Calgary early enough to depart on WestJet’s sun destination flights and then catch a same-day return flight back to Brandon after a sun-seeking vacation is over. Slowly, but surely, Brandon is broadening and expanding its role in the market of worldwide air travel.”
The Brandon Chamber of Commerce has welcomed today’s news, with Board President Jordan Ludwig noting how pleased they are to see the resiliency of the Brandon air service market.
“The Brandon Chamber would like to thank WestJet for their continued support of the Brandon market and we wish them continued success and growth in our marketplace,” states Ludwig. “This additional flight is great for our community, allowing access to major markets with a flight right out of Brandon, and same day return service to Calgary. The ability to land in Calgary, attend meetings, and be back in your own bed all in the same day is a huge win for our local businesses in terms of convenience.”
2016’s specific flight times at the Brandon Municipal Airport as announced today by WestJet are:
• Departing Brandon at 6:00 AM – Arriving in Calgary at 7:28 AM *NEW
• Departing Brandon at 1:20 PM – Arriving in Calgary at 2:37 PM
• Departing Calgary at 9:45 AM – Arriving in Brandon at 12:45 PM
• Departing Calgary at 7:50 PM – Arriving in Brandon at 10:50 PM *NEW
“With our $9 million airport terminal redevelopment project scheduled to begin soon, today’s confirmation of an additional WestJet flight to Calgary is yet another piece of good news for the Brandon Municipal Airport,” concludes City of Brandon Director of Transportation Services Timothy Sanderson. “We’ll now be working with WestJet to determine what extra staffing complement will be needed from the City of Brandon to make this forthcoming second flight as wildly successful as the first one has proven to be.”
