For the first edition of the community strategic plan, we partnered with the Brandon Regional Health Authority. Some of the their strategic priorities include:
- Improved health status of the population, through strategies that focus on wellness and the factors that determine health
- Human, financial, and capital resources, including equipment, that support and sustain programs and services that are people-centered, evidence-based, and needs driven
- Health system integration with partnerships that enhance access and minimize duplication
- An organization that attracts and retains employees who feel valued and supported
- An organizational culture that focuses on safety, disclosure, learning, and improvement, using a system-wide approach.
Who is Healthy Brandon?
Healthy Brandon is a community coalition with a vision of creating a Healthier Brandon. The population target for Healthy Brandon is 30 to 59 year olds. Our primary points of contact are workplaces and neighbourhoods to reach our target population.
The Healthy Brandon community coalition carries the following values and beliefs:
- Partnership – to foster positive working relationships.
- Quality Improvement – to measure our progress and build on successes.
- Respect for Diversity - respect differences in culture, values and life circumstance.
- Population Health – consider the many factors and conditions that affect health.
- Responsibility –to develop policy to enhance the safety and health of the community.
- Community Development – build on the strengths of the community and meaningful participation.
The objectives of Healthy Brandon are:
- To support strategies and programs that promote health and prevent chronic disease,
- To foster cooperation and collaboration,
- To provide an opportunity for networking and sharing of information and resources.
- To provide funding to the five working groups to conduct Healthy Living activities
Healthy Brandon consists of a steering committee made up of community representatives including residents, local businesses and non-profit organizations as well as five separate community working groups:
- Healthy Brandon in motion
To increase physical activity options within our community so that all individuals are included.
- Healthy Brandon Eating Well
To provide information to the community re: benefits of eating well without focusing on weight loss.
- Healthy Brandon Tobacco Free
To provide practical tools to support cessation and heighten public awareness.
- Healthy Brandon Living Well With Stress
To create awareness of ways to cope with life stresses in a productive way.
- Healthy Brandon Workplaces
To create healthy projects that can be taken out to workplaces and provide a communication mechanism for workplaces.
