Volunteers Still Needed for Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival
With just over two weeks to go until its kick-off, organizers of the 9th Annual Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival are putting out a call for volunteers to help ensure that this year’s edition of the festival is one to remember.
The 2012 Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival is set this year for Feb.2nd through 4th and features 13 cultural pavilions at locations spread throughout the City of Brandon. While each pavilion has a core group of volunteers that have been hard at work for months in preparation of the three-day event, as many hands as possible will be needed to ensure everyone gets the most out of their festival experience.
Festival organizers are encouraging all people who wish to volunteer with a pavilion group to contact them as soon as possible.
In particular, volunteers are currently needed in the following areas:
- Assistance with food preparation for the English Pavilion on Wed, February 1st;
- Billet families for performers involved with the Colombia pavilion;
- General assistance at the German, USA, Brazil, Mauritius and Colombia pavilions during the course of the festival weekend.
“In 2011, there were well over 600 volunteers involved in making the 8th annual festival a success,” says Hope Roberts, Community Development Programmer with the City of Brandon. “The Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival would not be what it is today if it wasn’t for the dedication of volunteers in our community.”
All volunteers must either be over the age of 18 or, if not, must have parental consent.
Log on to www.brandonwinterfestival.ca for more details on how to sign up to be a volunteer. Information on pavilion locations, minimum hours of operations and all the details of this year’s festival can also be found there.
